National Museum of Pakistan was built as a tribute to Sir Bartle Frere, a Commissioner of Sind during the 19th century. In 1970, the Museum was shifted to its present location in Burnes Garden, Dr. Zia-ud-din Road. The main objective of building National Museum was to preserve, research and exhibit the collection of national and cultural history of Pakistan.


In 1970 there were only four galleries in the Museum. However, currently there are a total of 11 Galleries in the Museum including superb “Quran Gallery”.
